Davydenko cruises into second round of Open de Moselle

METZ, France (Ticker) - Nikolay Davydenko has taken the first step toward putting Russia's semifinal loss to Croatia in the Davis Cup behind him.
The top-seeded Davydenko routed Richard Mello of Brazil, 6-3, 6-1, in Monday's first round of the $390,000 Open de Moselle.
Davydenko, who is seeking his second title of the season and first since May, dominated in his first career meeting with Mello to improve his singles mark to 46-24 this season.

It was Davydenko's first match since losing in straight sets to Ivan Ljubicic as Russia lost its tie with Croatia, 3-2.
Ljubicic, who also won his singles match against Mikhail Youzhny before pairing with Mario Ancic to win the pivotal doubles match, is the third seed here and also advanced to the second round with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 triumph over Argentine Jose Acasuso.
Davydenko and Ljubicic could meet in the quarterfinals of this hardcourt event.
